Moelwyn is a spacious 3 bedroom self catering house with stunning sea views. Sitting high above Harlech and it’s medieval castle, the house has spectacular views over Cardigan Bay and the mountains of Snowdonia.

Moelwyn is a spacious 3 bedroom house above Harlech. I know I’m always going on about how nice the views are with a lot of our Dioni cottages. But this one has to be the best yet. Sitting high above Harlech and it’s medieval castle, the house has spectacular views over Cardigan Bay and the mountains of Snowdonia. Every window is like a picture postcard.

First your eye is drawn to the manicured greens of Royal St Davids links golf course. These are framed by the rolling sand dunes synonymous with this part of Snowdonia. The dunes in turn dissolve down to the flat golden planes of sand that stretch out for miles to the north and south. A crystal blue sea is divided from the blue sky by the mountains of the Llyn Peninsula, stretching out along the horizon like a jagged sword. A view I would argue that’s difficult to better on any continent.

The house itself is very comfortable and is a relatively new build. A large well equipped kitchen with has all the modern conveniences you would expect. Including a large gas hob, oven, dishwasher and microwave. The adjoining utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a convenient Belfast sink.

The lounge is also very spacious and well furnished and includes a gas fire and large flat screen TV. The most spectacular feature however is of course the large patio door that overlook the bay below. The dining room next door sits six quite comfortably. There’s also a ground floor wc.

A spectacular stained glass window dominates the hallway and stairs which leads up to 3 bedrooms in total. One twin room, one double room and one master bedroom with a king sized bed and an en-suite shower room. (I’m trying not to mention the views again.) But all the bedrooms are spotlessly clean as you’d expect and have all the fixtures you’d expect with a five star home. Finally, a large bathroom has a shower as well as a big corner bath.
 

Location

Harlech is famous for its castle, men of Harlech and the film Zulu, but it’s a surprisingly small little town. Little cottages cling on to the hill which rises up from the bay and surround a crowded crossroads of narrow streets. There’s a small but selective collection of shops, pubs and restaurants to choose from. A short 20 minute drive will take you tot he larger towns of Porthmadog and Barmouth.

There are many walking options from the house itself. And I would recommend exploring places like Cwm Bychan and Moel Ysgafarnogod before heading off to Snowdon perhaps. I understand the desire of many guests to tick that one off the list but the more remote peaks just behind the house offer a truer reflection of the mountainous region. The beaches are also a natural attraction in the summer as are all the outdoor pursuits that can be done in the area. But again, a winter break away from the crowds does have it’s appeal.
